Summer on the Mountain

Welcome to summer on the mountain! Temperatures are normally about 10 degrees cooler on Chewelah Peak during the hot summer months, so come on up and get out of the heat!

Please use caution if you are out on the mountain Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm as crews are around the mountain with heavy machinery.

Summer Routes

Mountain Biking

Lifts do not operate during the summer season. Several service roads in the West, Central, and East Basins are perfect for mountain biking.

There are no set non-motorized trails, but the land is open to the public. You can also stop by the Ticket Office at the main lodge during business hours for more information.

Huckleberry Picking

Chewelah Peak is a well-known spot for huckleberry picking.  Berries are typically in season from mid-July to early August, depending on the weather. Berry size can differ depending on the time of season, type of berry, and location.

Under Forest Service rules and regulations, you are allowed to pick up to 3 gallons of huckleberries per day. Rakes and other mechanical devices for berry harvesting are not allowed. Picking berries for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited.

Hiking

The mountain is open for hiking and exploring during the summer months unless otherwise posted. Depending on the winter season, the snowpack is usually gone by the 4th of July. Snow can linger in some shaded areas.

Both the Nordic trail system and service roads are available for hiking, as well as the runs themselves. You can take an easy way to the summit, like Portal to Silver Ridge, or just head straight up.

See the trail map for suggested hiking routes.

RV's and Camping

At this time we do not offer RV hookups in the off-season, however, you are welcome to use the Colville Forest Service land according to their regulations.

We only hold RV hookup reservations during the operating winter season during business hours (which can be arranged through the ticketing office). All non-electric RV areas (lots 2-4) are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Parking

When you visit, please park in our Main Lot, North Lot, or Nordic Lot.  For those traveling to the East Basin or another outlying area on the mountain, please do not block any gates.  Visitors are asked to observe all posted signs as there may be construction or resort improvement projects underway.

Garbage

Chewelah Peak is a beautiful, pristine place, and we would like to keep it that way.  Please pack out all garbage and help us preserve this important recreational resource.

Please Note

When spending the day in the mountains, it's always a good idea to bring the ten essentials.
Smoking is prohibited in the Colville National Forest during the summer.

Motorized Vehicle Policy

No motorized vehicles are allowed within the Ski Area except for county roads, un-gated USFS roads and parking lots.
